1st Bodicote Scout Group.
News Letter No. 96 June 1966.
May has been for me a fairly quiet month so far as Scouting has been concerned, so I took a week of my annual holidays
as I shall not be attending Summer Camp this year.
The sections however have been keeping up the good work and I have received the following reports.
CUBS. Although only 15 Cubs out of 24 turned up for the Guild annual Colaboree on the 14th the Black Six, under Sixer
Wilson Cotton managed to gain 3rd place. Well done Blacks. Had all the Cubs attended we might have achieved better results.
1st place was gained by 5th Banbury Pack, the new Pack formed by our late Akela, Tom,Heaslewood who is to be congratulated
on his early success. Points were deducted for Sixes which were under strength. I must once again appeal to Parents to encourage
their boys to attend these functions which are arranged for the benefit of their boys. In this connection may I remind all Cubs
that a special Pack meeting will be held in the Bodicote playing field on June 4th at 2.45 p.m. when we shall be hosts to the
1st Banbury Packs (St. Hughs and St.Pauls). Don't forget your "Space Clothes".
During May Entertainers Badges have been gained by Wilson Cotton and Terry Willan. Peter Jesse has gained his 2nd Star and John
Lawrence his 1st Star.
Akela will be away from May 21st until June 4th but Cub meeting will be held as usual but run by Judith Kerrison, but I
will be along, to assist her. I hope to give Akela a good report when she returns from a well earned holiday.
SCOUTS. We welcome Kevin Gascoigne into the Troop from the Cubs. During May Nicky Bishop has gained his Athletes Badge,
Stephen Harris and Paul Brooker their Starmans Badge and Ned Dodwell his Senior Scout Firemans Badge. Congratulations to them all.
We are sorry to lose Collin Pearson who has joined a boarding school at Brackley. We shall transfer him to the school troop and hope
he continues his Scouting at school. We wish him every success and assure him of a very warm welcome any time that he wishes to come over
and see us at Bodicote. In his place as Patrol Second of the Peewits P.L.Ned Dodswell has chosen Dave Clark with the full approval of the
Court of Honour.
Patrol meetings are now a regular feature of the Troop and all four Patrols have held meetings during May.
The Court of Honour has accepted the County Commissioner’s challenge to run the Troop completely under the Patrol system with
regular Patrol meetings and at least one Patrol camp and Patrol Expedition.
Log books of these exploits will be kept and submitted to the C.C. Out of a total of some 80 or more Troops in the County only
15 have accepted this challenge so please back up your Court of Honour and attend all the activities arranged by your Patrol Leaders.
