1st Bodicote Scout Group.
News Letter No.78. November 1964.
Very little news has come to hand this month and I must again ask section leaders to let me have their news BEFORE tbe 20th of the month.
The Cubs paid a visit to the Cubs of the Boy Scouts of America at Croughton. They made our Cubs very welcome and I am sure that they all enjoyed themselves. I have no doubt that Akela will be inviting them to a return visit shortly.
With the enlarging population in Bodicote and Banbury numbers of both Cubs and Scouts are increasing. Our Scouters are being kept pretty busy and need all the help that they can get.
In this connection, may we extend a hearty welcome to Andrew Brown, transferred to us from Birmingham, David Brencham, Nicholas Bishop who has come up from our Cub Pack, Victor Balfour and Richard Fiddis. Since our last News letter, Robert Bedlow has been made a Patrol Leader of the Woodpigeon Patrol. He has chosen Philip Ambler as his Patrol Second. These appointments are provisional, to be confirmed by the Court of Honour if the boys prove themselves good leaders. Philip Ambler has recently been awarded his Second Class badge. Well done Philip. Skip Frank Wroe is hoping that all boys will have gained this status by next Summer Camp.
We are all very sorry to hear that Mike Barwick will be leaving the district at the end of November. Our best wishes go with him in his new venture.
The Seniors have added to their ranks as well as the Juniors. We welcome C.Fisher and R.Wilkinson to the Livingstone Patrol.
November 28th, is our birthday party and this year we celebrate the 1Oth anniversary of our reforming. We intend to make this a rather special occasion. Apart from the tea, at which the District Commissioner and his Lady will be the Chief Guests all sections are staging a short sketch during the evening. Parents and Friends are invited to join us from 6.00pm onwards and we hope to see at least one Parent of each boy. As this could be the start of a "Little Bodicote Gang Show" I hope to see a large number turn up to give the boys and scouters plenty of encouragement as well as enjoy yourselves.
Will all Parents who would like to help with the supply of eats for the tea party please send them along to the H.Q. on Saturday morning November 28th and if possible, let me know that they will be doing so. We shall have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 90 mouths to fill this year – a record.
We have been asked by OXFAM to distribute boxes for a Family Box Campaign and have agreed to cover Bodicote Village from November 29th - December 6th.
The Cancer Information Association have offered to give a talk and film show on Cancer and the Dangers of Smoking. We have accepted their offer for December 11th at our H.Q. at 8.00 pm. Any Parents who are interested will be welcome.
Dates for the Diary:
November 28th. 10th Anniversary Party.
December 11th. Cancer Information Association talk and film.
