1st BODICOTE SCOUT GROUP
News Letter No.72 May 1964
The St.George’s Day Parade this year was, I think, one of the best for many years and I am pleased to say Bodicote had a good turn out in all sections. Thank you everyone for answering my appeal to you all.
The main event in May will be the B.P.Guild Colaboree which in the main concerns the Cubs and Scouts. This takes place in People’s Park, Banbury on Saturday May 23rd. The time will probably be 2.30p.m. but I will confirm this later.
A Fete committee meeting will be held at Bodicote Lawn Hostel on May 12th at 7.30p.m. All interested helpers are asked to attend but especially Rovers, Seniors and Scouters.
CUBS. Our new Akela is settling down well and is getting the Cubs back to shape. He intends to raise
the standards to enable the Pack to regain some of its past glory.
During April Michael Brooker was invested as a Cub whilst Paul Kerrison gained his
First Star and Martyn Wright his Second Star. Well done all three of you.
A football match was arranged against 7th Banbury Cubs which our boys won 1-0.
It is hoped to arrange a Parents of Cubs evening shortly so as to afford Akela the chance of making
himself known to the many Parents.
SCOUTS. I was pleased to invest John Crabtree as a Scout on April 17th.
John gained his Leaping Wolf whilst a Cub and I hope that he will make similar progress in the Scouts.
We welcome to the Group Peter Clifford a Brother of a former member of the Troop. We all hope that he has
a long and happy association with Scouting.
Will all Scouts who are going to Summer Camp please remember that the camp bank is
open and Mr.Taylor will be pleased to receive any monies you wish to deposit with him.
Mark Dodwell and Tony Sealey recently took their First Class journey and subject to a satisfactory
log and Tony passing his swimming test they will both be First Class Scouts.
SENIORS. Good progress is still being maintained in this Section. Five Seniors attended the all day Venturers Badge course run by the Heythrop Rovers. Bill Dodwell has obtained his Hiker Badge. In preparation for their cycle ride to Wales some Cycle training is now in progress.
ROVERS. The first of what I hope will be a regular meeting of the Crew will take place on Sunday May 10th
at H.Q. when we hope that Frank Wroe will be with us again.
The main discussion will be the BIG HUNT GAME which the Rovers will stage on August 29th.
