1st Bodicote Scout Group.
News Letter No.69. January and February, 1964.
This is a bad start for 1964. January News Letter was never written so I am combining January with February and hope to be able to keep to a monthly letter from March.
We ended the old year with a party of Cubs and Scouts singing carols at Adderbury Old Peoples Home on December 17th. The singers consisted of 21 from Bodicote and 7 from Deddington. I am afraid the Sunday Carol Service at Marlborough Road on Sunday 22nd was not so well attended by our Group. Only about 8 members were there including Scouters. This was, to say the least, a little disappointing.
During Christmas week the new heaters were installed in the H.Q. and I think that you will all agree that they are a great improvement on the gas. Thank you Frank Wroe.
SCOUTS. I was pleased to invest Colin Pearson as a Scout during December. It has taken rather a long time Colin but I hope that Second Class will soon follow.
Congratulations to Colin Green on obtaining his First Class Badge. There should be several more to follow this year, so push along you younger fellows. Show what YOU can do.
I am glad that Stephen Harris has come into the Scouts after a successful Cub career. He looks like catching up some of you "old stagers" too, as he is almost through his Tenderfoot after only three weeks at Scout meetings.
SENIORS. On Friday January 24th four Scouts were transferred to the Seniors. They were Colin Green, Richard Dodwell, Roger Hogben and Bernard Guilford. This makes our Senior Patrol up to 8 and with the guidance of Derek Wyeth I hope that they will get "cracking". At least 3 of them should be Queen Scouts by June.
Chief Scouts visit to Oxfordshire. June 20th 1964: The Chief wishes to meet personally all Queen Scouts and First Class Scouts on that day when he visits Blenheim Park for the County Rally. A full programme is being arranged and I hope that the whole of the Group will attend. Camping for the weekend is available or a day visit for Cubs, Parents and non-campers. More details of this later. In addition a "SOAP BOX DERBY" for Oxfordshire is being staged and Bodicote hope to enter for this. The Seniors are building a "car" which we hope will be suitable for all three sections of the Group.
SUMMER CAMP. I am arranging a week’s camp at Dyffryn-Glyn-Cul, near Towyn, West Wales for August 15th. The cost will be approximately £4. Per head, and I hope most boys will come. A saving from now of 3/- per week will cover the major cost and not cause hardship in August. The camp bank is now open to all who wish to start. If any boy finds he cannot eventually come any money he has paid will be refunded in full.
BOB-A-JOB WEEK this year will be either the week before or the week following Easter. Get your jobs lined up now and make this, our tenth year a record. Remember ALL monies earned will go into the Group Funds.
JUMBLE SALE. The Seniors, directed by Derek are staging a Jumble Sale in March at our H.Q. Please save all your useful jumbl;e let us know in early March and we will collect it.
