News Letter No. 60. March 1963.
This is my jubilee news letter. No one can be more surprised than I that I have kept it going so long. There seems to be a general desire that I should keep it going, so I will do my best.
In February I noted that the Cubs keeping up a pretty good attendance but I regret that of late the numbers of absentees has increased.
It is pleasing to see that those who have been attending regularly are making good progress. So much so that I am able to report the following successes:-
Second Star gained by Stephen Betts, Terry Bilverstone, Nicholas Bishop, Richard Fiddes and Richard MacDonald. Well done, we should soon have some Leaping Wolves.
Collector Badge. Richard Fiddes, Stephen Harris.
House orderly. Stephen Harris.
Sportsman. Colin Pearce and.
A very good return for one month.
The attendance at Scouts on Fridays is improving but I am still looking forward to that 100% attendance. The old keenness is returning and I hope that with the better weather we shall see all the boys there IN UNIFORM. I have been requested by one Patrol Leader to get some staves. I myself welcome this suggestion as staves are very useful for Pioneer work. I have agreed to get a supply but the boys will be asked to pay for them, at a cost of approximately 4/6 each. Each patrol will then make a stave rack and they will be kept in the headquarters.
We welcome back to the Group, David Hind who was a Cub some time back. I hope he sticks this time and makes up for lost years.
Ronnie Gray was invested as a Scout on February 8th which only leaves Paul Buzzard outstanding from the last list. What about it Paul?
The Seniors have become a little irregular partly because of lack of guidance, not that at their age they should need much help. However, I have agreed to be at the HQ at 7.30 each Tuesday to get them under way until Robin arrives. He has had a rather difficult time during the bad weather and has often found it impossible to arrive on time. I hope that the Seniors will bear with us and turn up in uniform each Tuesday at 7.30pm. I have very little time to spare these days and cannot afford to waste any.
I very much regret that owing to a lack of support I had to cancel the proposed dinner for Parents. I only had eight written acceptances and about five verbal ones by Saturday 2nd so could not risk ordering the necessary victuals. I’m sorry. I thought it was a good idea. I was in a minority apparently.
May I remind you that Summer Camp Bank is now open. A little each week will help later on. I'll not yet been able to fix a site but I am trying to do so for August 10th to August 17th.
Easter will soon be upon us and so- BOB-a-JOB. I hope all Parents will be thinking up the jobs for the boys and the boys making their bookings.
