1st Bodicote Scout Group.
News Letter No.63. June, 1963
At long last the weather has turned in our favour and we have been able to get some of the "OUT" in SCOUTING.
Three week-end camps have been held during May and were reasonably well supported. More week-ends will be arranged during June, so get that gear ready and spend a few nights under canvas.
The Guild Colaboree was again poorly attended by Bodicote, only 8 Cubs and 12 Scouts turning out. This was a poor let down resulting in our being unplaced in either branch. Thank you, those of you who were there.
Cubs. Several Cubs have now moved up to the Scout Troop which leaves vacancies in the Pack and Akela will be pleased to receive any boys over 8 years who would like to sample Cubbing.
During May Wilfred Bott, Paul west and John Banning have joined up, the former being invested on May 29th. A big welcome to these boys and we hope that they will stay with Scouting for many years.
Congratulations to Nicholas Bishop and Richard Fiddis on gaining the House Orderly Badge and to Martyn Wright who has earned his 1st Star.
The Committee of th~ Councll- our governing body-have passed new rules concerning Cubs which should be noted by all Scouters.
To become effective as from September 1st I963, a boy must be aged 8 years and not over 10 years 6 months to become a Cub. A Cub may go up into the Troop at age 10 years 6 months. No Cub to remain in the Pack after age 11 years.
Scouts may be accepted from age 10 years 6 months until age 15 when he becomes a Senior.
Scouts. During May we were very pleased to take into the Troop 7 Cubs: Stephen Betts, Terry Bilverstone, Edmond Cramp, Christopher Horn, Richard MacDonnell, Colin Pearson and Philip Walker and to accept new recruits to Scouting: Mark Dodwell and Richard Hayes. To all of these boys we offer our best wishes for many happy and progressive years in Scouting.
Certainly some boys have been progressing. Mark Dodwell has been invested, whilst Rlchard Dodwell, who was invested at Overthorpe Scbool has re-passsed his Tenderfoot and completed his Second C1ass. A number of other tests have been taken and passed particularly by boys attending weekend camps.
Seven Cyclist Badges have been awarded as the result of tests given by Sgt.Webb who assures me that the standard achieved was good. Well done, Paul Buzzard, Nigel Dixon, Roger Hogben, Colin Green, Bernard Guilford and Tony Sealey.
The Patrol Competition was re-started in March and the points and positions to date are as follows:-
March Owls 153 Pigeons 151 Peewits 113
April Owls 108 Pigeons 100 Peewits 97
May Pigeons 141 Owls 122 Peewits 111
Peewits? What are you going to do about this situation?
Seniors. The Senior Patrol has not been very active lately but I am hoping that now exams. And endurance tests are over that they will again get cracking on that "Queen Scout" trail.
Fete. Mr.Kerrison has the Fete arrangements well under control. Any offers of help physically and/or financially will be welcomed by him at 24 St.Mary’s Road, Adderbury West. Adderbury 443.
