1st Bodicote Scout Group.

News Letter No.64. July 1963.

This news letter is a little late in coming out, but I hope will be read with as much interest as usual.

Cubs. We still have a few vacancies for Cubs in the Pack and Akela will be pleased to welcome any boys between the ages of 8 and IO years 6 months. Congratulations to Richard Fiddis on gaining his Leaping Wolf and badges for Book Reader, Handicraft and Entertainer. Also to Stephen Harris and Nicholas Bishop for their Entertainer Badges. I am also pleased to see Clive Harris as a Sixer Second.

At the Fete on September 14th the Cubs will be presenting a short sketch. Parents are asked if they w1ll help with making costumes. All offers should be made to Dorothy Watts or myself. Many hands make light work.

Scouts. We are gaining strength now each week and are up to 3 patrols of seven each. I would like to see them reach 4 patrols by the end of the year, providing I can get more help on Friday evenings.

We welcome Kenneth Bridges into the Troop. Kenneth has recently come to live in Banbury after Scouting in Weybridge. Unfortunately he is now in hospital with appendicitis. We wish him a speedy recovery and a happy association with Bodicote.

Three more weekend camps have been held during June but not as many boys as I’d hoped have taken advantage of this. I'm sure if once they try it they and Parents will agree it is the best way to gain enjoyment and knowledge from Scouting.

We are entering a team for District Flag Competition which takes place on July13/14th at Heythrop College. The team is P.L.Tony Sealey, P.S. Philip Watts, Scouts Richard and Mark Dodwell, Robert Bedlow and Paul Buzzard. Good luck and good camping to you all.

Patrol Competition. June result. Peewits 153, Pigeons 151, Owls 147.

On June 21st I invested Philip Walker, Richard MacDonnell, Terry Bilverstone and Richard Hayes whilst Richard Dodwell was presented with his 2nd Class on June 7th. Congratulations to all these boys

Seniors. The Patrol has not yet got going properly but I am still hoping that they will again get moving and form the nucleus of our Senior Troop.

In September we plan to start a Judo Class on Tuesday evenings but more about this later.

Fete September 14th. Mr.Kerrison is well organised for this event as a meeting last Thursday proved. All committee members are very keen and all that we need is plenty of support and a fine day.

On behalf of the committee I am appealing for gifts for prizes for the draw and a collection of packets, bottles etc., for the provision stall. Also good clothing for Mrs.Wroe’s clothing stall and vegetables for the Fruit and Vegetable stall. These can be sent to me or any member of the committee at any time now with the exceptions of the vegetables which of course we shall not need until the day.
