1st Bodicote Scout Group.
News Letter No.68. December, 1963.
November 30th brought us to our 9th birthday party and was voted by many as the most successful party we have had. The District Commissioner, Mr,R.Beck and his wife were the chief guests supported by A.D.C.Mr.C.Wightman and his wife.
Whilst thanking everyone who contributed to make this a real party for the boys, i.e. the Parents who supplied most of the food and drink, special thanks go to Charlie Knifton for making a most excellent cake, Janie Knifton and their Parents for the icing, Janie and Alan Davies for organising the games, Frank Wroe for the indoor camp fire and the ladies in the kitchen who prepared and served the meal. It was also very pleasing to see so many Parents and Friends join us after 6 pm.
During the evening the D.C. presented Thanks Badges to three people who have helped us consistently over the past nine years. They are Mr. Moore our Group Committee Chairman, Mrs. Wroe and Mrs.Davidson. We hope that they will continue to associate themselves with the Group for, many years to come.
The atmosphere of the party was greatly enhanced by the "new look" headquarters thanks largely to the splendid example of Derek Wyeth, his brother Keith and Alan Davies who all put in many late nights with the brush and a number of others to a lesser degree, the painting was completed, the floor scrubbed and polished by Thursday night November 28th.
The next major job is to improve heating facilities and the decoration in the spring of the outside.
Concerning heating, a sub-committee of the Group Committee went into the question of heating and recommended infra-red heaters. The main committee endorsed this and we hope to get six heaters installed by Frank Wroe during the Christmas break.
CUBS. Two new boys have joined us. D.Carr and C.Barnett. We extend to them the hand of friendship and hope that they will enjoy their Cubbing with us. Nicholas Bishop has gained his Athletes Badge and the Leapig Wolf. Well done Nicholas.
SCOUTS. Judo classes have now started with some half dozen boy on Monday nights at 7.p.m. Maybe next year we shall be able to put on our own Judo show at the fete.
Are any Parents stumped for a small Christmas present for their boys? Why not give them a copy of "Scouting for Boys" by our Founder, The late Lord Baden-Powell. A new and revised edition is now available at 3/6. I can obtain these at a slightly reduced price and shall be pleased to order them if required.
The SCOUT - a weekly magazine- at 6d per week is also a good buy. It contains many useful articles for the boys and at the same time the increased sales will help the Association.
May I now take this opportunity of wishing all Parents and Friends, the Group Committee and all members o~ the Group a very happy Christmas in the right spirit of Peace and Goodwill.
E.A.Davidson.
