1st Bodicote Scout Group.

News Letter No.65. August, 1963.

As I was away on holiday from July 13th to 27th I missed several Friday evenings, whilst during August the normal routine has been suspended so that I have very little general news for you. I propose therefore to make this letter a special appeal for the FETE on September 14th.

I wish all Cubs and Scouts to do their best to dispose of Draw tickets – with the help of their parents – entrance tickets and bills. By selling as many tickets as possible before the day we greatly augment the publicity which will be given by the bills.
Mr.Kerrison and the Committee are working hard to make the fete a tremendous success but naturally they look to the members of the Group to play their part.
All members are asked to collect from now on, bottles, jars, tins, packets, etc., of provisions for the Bottle and Provisions stall.
Bodicote Guides will be collecting for the Cake stall and will share the takings on that stall with the Scouts.
Fresh vegetables will be needed on the morning of the fete for the vegetable stall; Mrs.Wroe will be grateful for good clothing for her second hand stall.
My appeal for prizes for the draw made in the last news letter has so far not brought a great result, but I hope this reminder will improve the position. We usually give some 30 prizes and I would not like this year to fall below our average. Mr.Kerrison at 24, St.Mary’s Road, Adderbury West (phone Add.443) will be pleased to receive any offers of assistance on the day of the fete.
The programme, which will start with the opening by Mr.& Mrs.R.Beck, the recently appointed District Commissioner, will also include:-

A sketch by the Cubs,
A tent pitching competition by Scouts,
Pony rides and possibly a display by Mrs.Matthews Twyford Riding School,
Children’s Sports and numerous side shows and stalls including the usual Bowling for the Pig. Teas and light refreshments at popular prices will be available.
In the early evening, "Hot Dogs and rolls will be on sale while a general singsong will be held round a camp fire.
Tell as many of your friends and relatives about this fete and bring them along. Make it the last outdoor social event of the year.

Congratulations to Tony Sealey and the five Scouts who represented us at the District Flag. Unfortunately, owing to holidays we were unable to send our best patrol but they managed to gain 5th place only 35 points behind the winners. Special mention was made by the D.C. on their smart appearance and behaviour. This after all is more important than specialised knowledge.

CUBS will resume in full on Monday SEPTEMBER 2nd and SCOUTS on Frday AUGUST 30yth. Both Akela and myself look forward to a full attendance.
